Get your All Thrifty On!

Support the trip by wearing

our swag from the

ATS Cafe Press Store!

Sponsored in part by Goodwill® Industries International

The time is near, and the pressure is on. This list-loving Virgo is having a field day trying to keep things straight and organized to make sure all the basics are taken care of in the RV.

That's why, after I meet the head of Goodwill at the RV pickup site, I'll immediately head to a nearby Goodwill. And as luck might have it, it's 50% off day!!!!  I'll be getting some kitchenware and linens for the rolling zip code to make it cozy and homey for the 7 week trip.

After the trip is over, everything will be re-donated to complete the circle.

(Cue Lion King theme song....)

A trip you can believe in!

I went out yesterday in search of a a purely DC decorative item that I can take with me to remind me of home while I'm on the road and this is what I found.  It was like striking GOLD! Even the cashier was jealous.

It's going to be a trip you can believe in!

The fun starts this Saturday!

This Saturday!  The trip starts in just a few days!  It's amazing to see this idea really taking off and I'm still continally blown away by the amount of support I've gotten from so many people.

I fly into Phoenix on Saturday afternoon and will be picking the RV up directly from the airport. Next stop? A Goodwill in Sun City, AZ to purchase some basics-- pots, pans, cups, sheets, pillows, etc.

The itinerary and map tabs are currently up to date and you can check there to see where I'm headed.  Directly below the map is a list of cities and towns I plan to stop in along the way.

I'm doing my best to get the last of the pledge prizes out this week before I leave.  I'll probably have some leftover swag available for purchase along the way as well if you're still interested in getting something like magnets, postcards, stickers and keychains with our logo.  I may even have a 10 x 10" signed print or two left to sell.

If you have any stores you frequent, a driveway I can park for the night or a can't-drive-through-town-without-stopping-to-eat-at kind of place, drop me a line and let me know.

The math of the trip and other ways to make me stress and cry.

So as I try to come up with some sort of plan for this thing, I've tried to do as much breaking down of things as possible.

9,000 miles-->6 weeks-->42 days

So, by those calculations, I'll need to do around 225-250 miles on average per day of driivng. That's 4 hours and 10 minutes at 60mph, 3 hours and 30 minutes at 70mph and 3 hours and 12 minutes at 80mph. Montana's lack of a daytime speed limit might help there. Thank God! That state is HUUUUUUGE!

By the miles and day calculations together, Spokane, Washington should be my 1/4 point.  That's 2250 miles in. Estimated to be around June 28.

Then 20 days into the 42 day trip, I should be in Minneapolis, Minnesota. That's the halfway point. 4500 miles in. Estimated to be around July 8.

Then 10 days later, I should be in Atlanda, Georgia. That's my 3/4 point. Estimated to be around July 21.

And around 40-42 days, after the start, I should be back in Phoenix on or around July 31. My finish line!

God help me if I'm not there by then-- the late fees are a whole other kind of math. The kind I DON'T want to have to do!

What to name the RV?

I always have believed it is good luck to christen your vehicle with a name-- give it a personality do it might take better care of you. My Jeep Wrangler was Snow White. My Subaru Forester is Grey Gal. So I'm debating what to call the rolling zip code that will be my home for six weeks.

Any ideas? I'm thinking something like Large Marge, Thriftosaurus Rex or Rosie.

Now taking suggestions. If I pick your RV name I'll send you an official ATS sticker!
